Hailey Solar House – Hailey, ID Started in 1981, the second of my hand built houses, this structure was designed, from the beginning, to be as energy efficient as I could make it. Besides its passive solar gains, it is super insulated. The house can be left unattended in the coldest of winter conditions, without the water freezing. I heated the house with a wood stove for about twenty years before I installed a forced air furnace. Every window in the house has its own insulating sliding pocket-door. The Hailey/Sun Valley area is prime turf for solar heating, in that, it is sunny about 300 days a year. It proved to be a very comfortable house in which to raise our family.
