When my son and I decided to build a home for him to live in Fairfield, we started out (This has been typical of all of my house building projects.) by finding demolition projects to supply the materials. Throughout the spring of 2003, we worked on tearing down two different houses in Ketchum, and stockpiling the materials. The intent, from the beginning, was a house under 1000 sq. ft. I drew up plans and submitted them to the building dept., and we spent the entire summer working. By the fall of the year it was ready to inhabit. As is typical of my work, we had large beams to work with, resulting in a structure resembling the proverbial ‘brick outhouse’.
